The problem: My wired connection is non-existent. In this video, it attempts to connect, but drops, attempts, and drops, etc, etc. My attempted resolutions: Connect laptop directly to cable modem: Failed Connecting brothers Dell laptop to same cable as used by the laptop, the Dell found the wired network and connected properly. Updating drivers/computer: Failed Live boot of Ubuntu: Failed Took apart laptop to check for anything disconnected within computer hardware: Failed - Wiggled cable in computer jack: Failed I'm chalking this up to a failed part on the motherboard... To install Active Directory you need to promote your first server to a Domain Controller. This video looks at the process of using DCPromo as well as the prerequisites required. Microsoft DNS can be installed when promoting the server. If you install DNS during the install, set the DNS server to 127.0.0.1 The Active Directory Domain Services role needs to be installed in order for the server to be promoted to a Domain Controller. This can be done through the server manager or when using DCPromo. When you are ready to promote your server to a Domain Controller, run the command DCPromo. This will install the Active Directory binaries if required and run the wizard. If you already have an existing forest you can choose to add this server to an existing forest. If you do not have any Domain Controllers on your network you need to create a new forest. The forest and domain functional levels affect only Domain Controllers. The domain functional level will determine which Domain Controller you can add to that domain. Using VMWare workstation with a HOST only network, setup Windows Server 2008 with 2 NICS and ICS. One NIC is connected to the HOST only network with the other connected via Bridged network connection to the lab network allowing it to connect to the Internet. This setup uses 172.16.0.0 network on the HOST only network. This will allow a workstation with 172.16.0.100 address to route out to the Internet via your Windows 2008 Server with an IP of 172.16.0.10.

JaS OSx86 10.5.4 running on Toshiba Satellite L305-S5919 Intel Celeron 2.16 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 9.77 GB HFS+ partition From what I tested: Things that don't work: -built-in keyboard/trackpad (have to use USB keyboard/mouse) -sound -graphics board -only displays in 1024x768, should go up to 1280x800 -some screensavers and applications (such as Photo Booth) will not run -built-in multi-card reader -USB multi-card reader -Network adapters (wired/wireless) -DVD movies (I suspect also data discs) Things that do work: -Finder navigation (including cover-flow) -most applications (haven't tested them all) -Dashboard, Encore, Spaces -Log-in/out There's probably more but that's all I tested. Couldn't find any drivers (kext in OS XI think?) thus the unbearably high incompatibility.
